A governess is a qualified teacher who concentrates on your childs intellectual and social development. They work on a short or long term basis in the family home, and are often available to travel with your family. Who hires a governess? If your children are of school age they may benefit from the help of a governess. Learning in a relaxed, one to one environment can prove hugely beneficial and your child will also benefit from the broader range of creative and musical skills that many teachers have. A governess will focus on educational and social goals for your child. It may that important entry exams are approaching, or it may be that your child is falling behind in a subject and would benefit from some one on one coaching. What does a governess do? A governess will work full time or part time depending on your requirements. Responsible for general care of the children as well as a focus on education, a full time governess will also cover nursery duties (though not domestic chores unrelated to the children). When should I hire a governess? Many people hire a governess during the school holidays or before important exams. A governess is also popular as a permanent option, and will often stay in a role for a year plus if required. If you are travelling and need a governess many candidates are happy to consider this as well. How much will it cost? Full time governess: A full time governess will charge £550+ after tax per week and will cover all educational and nursery duties. Part time governess: A part time governess will often combine teaching work with a governess role. If they can fit it in with their school a governess can work Mon - Fri from 4.30- 7, and would cost around £250 after tax per week. Alternatively a governess may work two or three full days per week and do relief teaching on the other days- this would cost approx £120 per day after tax. When should we contact the agency? If you are looking for a permanent governess contact the agency asap to commence your search. For summer placements, contact us any time from March that year. |
