The third post in our MummyHood Made Easy Series is straight to the point! 3 easy things to do OUTSIDE with the kids. As usual, we're encouraging self led exploration and learning.
Spider Web Spy
How many different spider webs can the children find? Where are they? Are there spiders in them? What else can they find in the garden? Give the children their very own Nature Journal to decorate. Inside, draw a picture of one of the spider webs. Keep the Nature Journal in a special place, so that you can record all of the fun activities you do.
Nature Perfume Pot
Head outside to the garden or a park. Take an old container with you. Look for things on the ground and in the garden around you. Pick them up and crush them between your fingers. How do they look? Feel? Smell? Add them all to your pot to create a nature scent. Use a stick to mash them together. You could add some water to see if that makes it smells stronger or weaker. If you've got a small bottle at home, bottle some up to give to Mum.
Great for a dry day, you will need some thin paper and a large crayon. Find a tree outside that feels good to you. Press a sheet of thin paper up against the tree bark and gently rub the side of the crayon until the pattern of the bark shows. Try it with different trees, which one makes the best rubbing? Try it with different colours and make some amazing art.
Thanks to the Nature Detectives website for these activities!
