Spring has SPRUNG! Now, what are the top activities that will benefit your children’s development whilst making the most of this beautiful sunshine?
Children can learn new skills, have fun, play and develop self confidence by spending time in the garden tending plants and growing their own food. As well as being educational, gardening helps develop new skills such as;
Water is one of the basic raw materials for purposeful play. Just like sand, clay, and blocks, children can use water without being constrained by the one, right way to use it. Water play encourages the development of a child’s physical, social and emotional growth.
Physical; water play encourages the development of hand/eye coordination through pouring squeezing, stirring, painting, scrubbing and squirting. Children strengthen their gross motor skills by running, dodging water drops, and hopping through a sprinkler. They widen their sensory experiences as they put their hands in different textures (gritty, squishy, and slimy) and different temperatures
Social and emotional; Water play is one of the most relaxing activities children can experience. After all, many adults relax in a warm bubble bath or hot shower! Water play relieves tension by encouraging children to release their emotions with pouring, pounding, and swooshing. In addition, social skills expand as children play cooperatively; negotiate; and share equipment, space, and materials.
