FIND A LIVE IN NANNY
A live in nanny is right for you if you are looking for a cost effective, flexible in home child care option.
A Live In Nanny will provide you with quality care for the children, as well as help you maintain a tidy and efficient home.
Live In Nannies
A KiwiOz Live In Nanny will have previous Nanny or Child Care experience and references. They are often qualified in child care, and occasionally will be qualified Teachers or Nurses who want a more personal family experience in London.
Mother's Helps are our less experienced or younger candidates. They are suitable for working with school aged children or younger children in shared charge care. KiwiOz Mother's Helps are an excellent alternative to hiring an Au Pair. Fluent English speakers, they are often confident beyond their experience and able to step in quickly to the role.
Mother's Helps are a popular option for families with one or both parents at home full time or potentially working from home. It is important to understand that a Mother's Helps are less experienced with children and around the home. You will need to train your Mother's Help and give them lots of positive encouragement and guidance to help them build confidence quickly.
Things to think about before hiring a live in nanny
Firstly, hiring a live in nanny does mean you'll have an extra person in your home. Your nanny should have her own bedroom with a window, wardrobe, drawers and a desk. She should have easy access to a bathroom.
You will need to provide your live in nanny with food sufficient for three meals per day. That means additional costs with shopping. You should have a clear discussion during your induction period with your new about food shopping, acceptable food for the children and how you would like to approach nanny meals. Nannies often prepare and eat dinner with their charges. This is a good idea because a) it is good for the children and the nanny to eat together, as a 'family,' and b) it frees the kitchen space for you and your partner in the evenings.
You need to be ok with the fact that your nanny has free time outside of work hours. That means she can come and go as she pleases when she is not working. We recommend you chat with your nanny about evenings out; if you feel you would be disrupted with your nanny arriving home late (say after 11pm or 12pm), you need to let her know.
Guests can also be a point of contention with live in Nannies. You need to be clear with your nannies that play dates should be pre-arranged and discussed with parents, and other than that guests are not allowed in the family home. From time to time the nanny might ask permission for a friend to visit, provided the family are aware of the visit that would be acceptable.
Of course, as the bond and trust between you and your nanny grows, you might choose to relax the boundaries around such things as visitors and return times in the evenings.
Interviewing Live In Nannies and Mother's Helps
At KiwiOz some of our Live In Nanny candidates are based in London already and available for face to face interviews. This provides an excellent opportunity for you to meet each other, discuss your needs at length and conduct a trial before offering a position.
We also work with many candidates who are moving to London with KiwiOz from New Zealand or Australia. These candidates are often qualified and experienced in childcare and are excellent options for your family. We recommend that you interview these candidates via Skype (we will arrange this for you). If you find a candidate you like you can then offer them the position, pending a successful trial period on arrival to London.
